State senator to host discussions on rural broadband

State Sen. Matt Schmit (DFL-Red Wing) is seeking feedback from the public to help set the legislative agenda on rural broadband.

To kick off the new year, State Sen. Matt Schmit (DFL-Red Wing) will host a tour across Greater Minnesota next week to facilitate discussions the topic of rural broadband. The conversations will address the need for high-quality broadband throughout the state and the affect it has on important issues such as health care, education, agriculture, local government and business. Schmit plans to use the information gathered on the tour to help determine the legislative agenda on broadband for the upcoming session.

The meetings, which are open to the public, are scheduled as follows:

  • North Branch: 3 p.m. Jan. 6 at the North Branch Regional Library (6355 379th St.)
  • Chatfield: 8 a.m. Jan. 7 at Chatfield City Hall – Council Chambers (21 Second St. SE)
  • Duluth: 2 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Arrowhead Regional Development Commission building (221 W. First St.)
  • Park Rapids: 9:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at Northwoods Bank community room (1200 First St. E)
  • Park Rapids: 12 p.m. Jan. 8 at St. Joseph’s Area Health Services basement meeting room (600 Pleasant Ave.)
  • Long Prairie: 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Todd County Courthouse boardroom – third floor (212 Second Ave. S)
  • Aitkin: 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the Aitkin Courthouse boardroom (217 Second St. NW)
  • Annandale: 4 p.m. Jan. 9 at Annandale City Hall community room (30 Cedar St. E)
