Events to help communities learn about improving broadband access

This week features two separate events that focus on broadband:

The Northwest Minnesota Foundation is hosting a broadband awareness meeting on Wednesday, June 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its office at 201 3rd St. NW in downtown Bemidji. Sen. Matt Schmit (DFL-Red Wing), a champion for rural broadband efforts, will speak at the meeting about the recently created $20 million Broadband Infrastructure Fund and the next steps communities can take to move closer to the state’s broadband goals. Please RSVP to Barb Lien at barbl@nwmf.org or call 218-759-6520.

The following day, Thursday, June 12 from 3-4 p.m., the Blandin Foundation is hosting a free webinar on “Approaches for Local Governments to Expand Internet Access.” Chris Mitchell from the Institute for Local Government Self-Reliance will discuss the successes and barriers experienced by communities that have pursued a public or public/private partnership for a community broadband network.
