Statewide organizations band together in support of Senate broadband position

Eleven organizations, including the GMNP and the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities, have joined together to pen a letter in support of the funding level and language changes found in SF2447 and SF2448, both authored by Sen. Matt Schmit.  The bills call for $85 million in funding and updates the underserved speed threshold to 100 mbps download and 20 mbps upload speed. The language change will allow many more cities in Greater Minnesota to be considered for funding and is a huge step forward in making the program work for economic development.

This united message sends a clear and strong signal to the Legislature about the critical need for changes to the broadband program so that more cities — which need better broadband for business growth and to compete in today’s global economy — can qualify for grants.
