GMNP, CGMC meet with new DEED Commissioner

Last week, GMNP President Ann Goebel, GMNP Executive Director Dan Dorman, Owatonna Mayor Tom Kuntz and Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities Executive Director Tim Flaherty met with Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Commissioner Shawntera Hardy, who just took over the position last spring.

The purpose of the meeting was to thank the Commissioner for DEED’s strong support of the Greater Minnesota Business Development Public Infrastructure (BDPI) program in the bonding bill and to familiarize her with the GMNP and CGMC and our priorities such as workforce housing and broadband.

The meeting went very well, and Commissioner Hardy was very engaged and interested in finding ways to help bring about change in Greater Minnesota’s economy. The Commissioner spoke of her upbringing in Youngstown, Ohio, and the challenges that city faced with the downturn in steel production. It was clear that she understands the challenges that many of our communities face or have faced in the past.
